RALPH pucci (the podcast)

Meet Nicole Pucci, creator and moderator of RALPH PUCCI (the podcast), and with her brother, Michael, the third generation of the Pucci family. We wanted to know why she (finally!) chose to join the family business, what intrigued her about a podcast and how she likes to spend her time.

How did you come to join the family business?I grew up around people super passionate about art and design, I was always interested in it but wasn’t sure I wanted it to be my “job”. I did Teach for America after college and then taught in public schools for almost 10 years. And then last year I was feeling ready for a change and wanted to join the family company but still wanted to work on special projects, because I wanted to bring my education experience and outside perspective to the company.

Why did you want to start the podcast? I think the storytelling aspect of all we do at RALPH PUCCI is really important. We’re at a high price point and I wanted to be able to tell our clients and fans about the blood, sweat and tears that go into the design and creation of these pieces. I found these stories were so part of my upbringing but the designers all have such extended and deep relationships with Ralph and PUCCI in general that I wanted to share that with a larger audience. And we have such interesting creators with really different backgrounds and experiences.

Has any guest’s response to a question surprised you particularly? The most surprising has been the consistency in advice of what people are sharing. Pretty much everyone has said in different ways “you can’t be afraid to hear no” and continue, going onto the next. It’s really powerful to hear that’s such a universal because when you’re young and you hear it the first time, I think it’s so hard. I personally know all of the guests, but in each conversation I’ve learned something I never knew before and it’s been great to deepen the relationships, especially for listeners who might not have known the guests at all before.

What other podcasts do you listen to? My favorite is Revisionist History by Malcolm Gladwell. I think he’s fascinating and he brings such a different perspective to topics that are unexpected. I initially thought I might not have an interest in a topic and then inevitably I become fascinated. 99% Invisible - all about architecture and design, and Business of Home.

You’ve asked guests to describe a perfect day. What does your perfect NYC day look like? If the weather is good, I would like to wake up early and go for a run, either on the east or west side. My favorite route is the loop around the bottom of Manhattan. If the weather’s not good or I’m not in the mood for a run, I like The Class by Taryn Toomey, a fun workout for body and mind. After, I like to meet up with friends or my fiancé for brunch, checking out new places. And I like to wander through galleries, I’ve recently enjoyed visiting David Zwirner. I like to read and cook a big meal - I love to cook the Momofuko Bo Ssam recipe - a real crowd pleaser. I recently read the Dutch House and Save Me The Plums, both of which I would highly recommend. If you’re into food, you have to read Ruth!
